Love Song: A Series in the Song of Songs

Kisses more delightful than wine! That’s a sample from the Song of Songs - and it’s just the appetizer! What do we do with this sensory tour de force of embodied love? Some, with a pornographic filter, view the Song as a celebration of erotic love. Others, with a prudish filter, allegorize it away as a spiritual metaphor and nothing more. Yet, wisdom invites us to an intimate gaze that explores the eternal dimensions of love - both human and divine. In other words, we’re invited to follow the beam up to the sun; to trace the melody to the heart of the Composer; to be able to say - regardless of our status - “I am my Beloved’s and my Beloved is mine.” This song is more than a love song. It’s a love story that heals and enlivens our stories by placing us within God’s Story.

This is a good news in a culture awash with sexual confusion and perversion. It’s good news for marrieds and singles who are struggling. It’s good news in a society that is lonely. It’s good news in a detached and digital world. The Song of Songs beckons us back to the beginning where the LORD declared the goodness of what He made, and also said “It’s not good for man to be alone.”

Over the course of 6 weeks we’ll be listening to the melody of God’s Love Song, as we discover that it truly is the Song of Songs. Join us Sundays at 10am!
