Our Mission & Vision

Learn about the mission and vision that motivates and gives direction to our church.

Our Mission

Our mission is to glorify God by being the people He has called us to be - a community grounded in Scripture, proclaiming Christ crucified, risen, and coming again, and loving one another as we have been loved. No Christian is meant to do this alone. We follow Jesus together. We will seek by God's grace to declare and display the good news of Jesus so that others will come to know Christ and make Him known.

Who We Are

We are a community of baptized believers in Christ. We hold that there are three “offices” that make up a church, following the New Testament pattern: members, pastors, and deacons.

Members are men and women in the church who exercise the authority and privileges given to the church by Christ Himself. The local church is called to guard the gospel through holding firmly to the faith, bearing responsibility for discipleship, and fulfilling the Great Commission (1 Cor. 12:27; 1 Tim. 3:15; Matt.16:13-19; 18:15-20; 28:18-20).

Elders/Pastors are men in the church who, according to Scripture, are called to devote themselves to the ministry of the Word and prayer, and give leadership and oversight to the church (Acts 6:4; 20:28; Heb. 13:17). Their qualifications are laid out in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.

Deacons are men and women in the church who serve and uphold the ministry of the Word and prayer by freeing the elders up to devote themselves to their calling. Deacons and deaconesses do this by giving oversight to particular ministries and, in so doing, protect the unity of the church (Acts 6:1-4; 1 Timothy 3:8-13).

What We Do

No program can produce the distinctive community of the local church in all that its called to be. At Mount Hope Church we want to focus on culture, not programs. A church’s culture is something that flows from shared identity, calling, and purpose. All that we do seeks to reinforce a culture of gospel-shaped, intentional community and outreach that is fueled by the Word of God. It’s simple, yet profound. As a famous sociologist once wrote, “The medium is the message.” Our desire is that the message of the gospel would be put on display in the life of our church community. As Jesus said, “By this all people will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). And as He prayed, “May they all be one, as You, Father, are in Me and I am in You. May they also be one in Us, so the world may believe You sent Me” (John 17:21).

- We gather together for worship and are formed by God’s Word.

- We do life together and seek to put God’s Word into action.

- We seek to love our neighbors and share God’s Word with them.

In short, we are a community that follows Jesus together as we declare and display His good news.
