Draw Near: A New Series in Leviticus

Leviticus has comically been referred to as the place where Bible reading plans go to die. Leviticus actually used to be the first book Jewish children studied in synagogue. For the modern church, it might be the last book anyone wants to study. In our reading, we’re confronted with what feels like an unbridgeable chasm between the ancient and the modern. Yet, this book actually answers the timeless question “How can sinful people draw near to an all-holy God?” How can we approach and even commune with this God?
Leviticus is the hinge of the Hebrew Torah. After the Israelites set up the tabernacle, the locus of Divine Presence at Sinai, Exodus ends with a dilemma: “Moses was unable to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud rested on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle” (Exodus 40:35). On the other side of Leviticus, we read “The LORD spoke to Moses in the tent of meeting in the Wilderness of Sinai” (Numbers 1:1). Leviticus shows us how we can draw near to God; it reveals how we get in.
Join us this Spring as we give ourselves to the message of Leviticus, all while marveling at the God who has given Himself to us.
