Come to the Boiler Room

There's a story about Charles Spurgeon, the 19th century pastor of the Metropolitan Tabernacle in London. The church's ministry was well-known for its great impact on society. Countless souls came to Christ through the preaching of Spurgeon. This made the church a destination for many curious people, including many pastors and seminarians. One Sunday a group of young ministers came to check out this ministry for themselves. They wanted to know the "secret of success." After showing them around the building, Spurgeon led them down to the basement, offering for them to see the boiler room. They declined. Who would want to see a hot, dusty boiler room? Spurgeon insisted. He opened the door to a room filled with a hundred people praying. "This", Spurgeon said, "is my boiler room."

Prayer is the Church's Power. When God's people humble themselves and pray, God works (2 Chron.7:14). As we persist in prayer, we show that our faith is truly in Him (Luke 18:1-8). Prayer precedes power (Acts 4:31). If we truly desire to see a work of God in and through our church, we must pray. And as we pray, we can expect God to work - above and beyond what we could ask or think!

This Sunday, January 5th, we'll be kicking off our Sunday evening prayer service for the new year. This is a time for us to lift up the needs, ministry, and mission of Mount Hope Church. We also spend time in fellowship, and hear an encouraging devotional from God's word.

Come to the spiritual boiler room of our church, and be a part of what God is doing. May we know our need, depend upon Him, and watch Him powerfully answer our prayers according to His perfect wisdom and timing. For His glory, and our joy.
