Have you ever received good news? Perhaps it was the reversal of bad circumstances or a surprising announcement. Good news has the power to change our whole perspective in the present and give us hope for the future. And at the center of the Christian faith is good news – what we call “the gospel.” The good news is this – through a dependent faith in Jesus, we have “grace and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father. To whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen!” This quotation is how the Apostle Paul opened up his ancient letter to the churches of Galatia, a Roman province in central Turkey. The rest of the letter unpacks the multi-faceted beauty of the gospel. Like a diamond turned every-which-way, the gospel’s definition, authenticity, central concerns, and implications reveal that it is indeed one beautiful gospel. With this in mind, we will be walking through this early church letter to discover afresh our need to daily believe, defend, and live out this good news in all of life. The gospel is beautiful. And there is no other.
