In a recent Barna Survey on evangelism, it was discovered that though almost all Christians would recognize that sharing the gospel is essential to being a follower of Jesus, an increasing number would say they feel uneasy about doing it. Not just uneasy, because it can feel awkward; but uneasy because they feel that it could be morally wrong.
Welcome to 21st Century Pluralism! So deeply have people’s intuitions been affected, that to proclaim the good news about Jesus feels like it’s wrong. The apostle Paul believed it would be wrong for him not to preach the gospel. “Woe to me if I do not preach the gospel!” (1 Cor. 9:16) Why? Because the gospel is the only message by which people can be saved (Acts 4:12). That means that we have a message that we can joyfully proclaim that is the answer to people’s most fundamental problem.
In our upcoming equipping class, we’ll seek to help one another remember that sharing the gospel isn’t a somber duty, but a joyful privilege. Join us on Wednesday evenings at 7pm for a time of instruction, conversation, and practical tools to help us along as we seek to be faithful to the task we’ve been given by our gracious Savior and Lord (Matt.28:18-20).
